The Commission and the D.C. Consortium of Legal Services
Providers recently released a report, Rationing Justice: The
Effect of the Recession on Access to Justice in the District of
Columbia. The report shows that financial support for legal
services has been decimated just as client need is rising
sharply. In the last year alone, $4.5 million in funding - 25% of total
legal services funding - was lost. As a result, the network has
decreased by twenty-one attorneys and thirty non-attorney
staff who provide critical client support. The loss of these
lawyers means that thousands of low-income clients will not
receive critical legal services.Click here to also see a copy of the Executive Summary, and the Press Release.
