Perhaps it is because of the deep-seated and innate need to show compassion that more and more private law firms in the West are increasingly taking on pro bono publico projects in the developing world, and with the sense of commitment, respect and responsibility towards others that compassion demands. The urge to help in this way is, no doubt, reinforced by the involvement by lawyers from large law firms with the corporate social responsibility programmes of multinational corporations.
