'Lord Goldsmith, QC, the former Attorney-General, has called on all lawyers doing pro bono cases to make use of the new section 194 order. Under this, if pro bono lawyers give free advice on a case worth up to £10,000, the court may make an order that the losing party pays, as it would had the lawyer been charging. Under the reform the money raised will go to a charity, the Access to Justice Foundation, which distributes funds to voluntary and charitable organisations to help those seeking pro bono assistance. Goldsmith, speaking at City Law School's Pro Bono Fair, said: "By helping one client, the pro bono lawyer assists a second for free" '.
