Sponsored by the Public Service Committee of the Federal Bar Council, these three panel discussions, scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, 18 and July 2, will probe the rules, procedures and obstacles to filing an asylum application. Discussions will include the one-year filing deadline, evidentiary requirements for an Immigration Hearing, challenges in detention cases and appeals to the Board of Immigration Appeals and Second Circuit. Each session will focus on various stages of an asylum matter. There will both moderated and open forum discussions with plenty of opportunity for questions. Featured speakers include Immigration Judges, individuals from the Second Circuit's Immigration Unit, private Immigration Law practitioners and representatives from public interest organizations, each of whom will provide their views and experience on obtaining the appropriate relief for an asylum client.
